a{TEXT-DECORATION:none} Asking patients whether they're being abused at home is becoming routine practice at MidCentral Health. About 12 children each month who have been hurt or are in danger are being referred to Child Youth and Family services from Palmerston North and Horowhenua. At least twice as many more women are being supported and encouraged to get louis vuitton replica handbags help, while social workers deal with other cases in-house, and inter- agency supports are wrapped around some families. But family violence intervention co-ordinator Juliet Scott believes there are many more cases that are missed. The goal is to ask all women in hospital, no matter what they're there for, about whether they and their children are safe. Pregnancy services are among the first where staff are trained and the questions have become regular practice - based on concerns that women are often at their most vulnerable when they are pregnant. Womens's health, children's health, mental and sexual health and the emergency department aren't far behind. Ms Scott estimates about one in 20 women in hospital has suffered from family violence, but she doesn't have the figures to prove it yet. louis vuitton replica handbags What she does know are the national statistics. About 450 women are admitted to hospitals each year as a direct result of family violence. Adult victims of family violence present louis vuitton replica handbags to emergency departments three times more often than others, are twice as likely to see a health professional in primary care, and are five times more likely to need mental health services. "People who are subjected to family violence are over- represented in health settings. It is bad for your health, being bashed and put down." The longer abuse continued, the worse the outcomes for people's mental, emotional and physical health. Ms Scott said people were getting used to the idea that they would be asked about family violence, and few were disconcerted. The questions were usually asked in the course of a clinical assessment, with a preamble explaining that staff care about family violence and its impact on women and children. Ms Scott said people were only asked if they were in a safe, private place, which wasn't always possible in a busy emergency department when partners and children and other people were around, or when the patient's more immediate needs had to come first. The service is due for an audit later this year. Future extensions to the intervention programme are likely to include helping staff deal with family violence in their own lives, and screening for elder abuse. Wow gold!: Wow goldWow gold

INTRODUCTION Naked neck, a phenotypic expression controlled by single dominant autosomal gene (Na) is characterized by reduced feather in neck region in chicken. The naked neck (Na) gene is incompletely dominant; the heterozygotes can be identified by a tuft of feathers on the ventral side of the neck (Scott and Crawford, 1977) whereas homozygotes have no plumage on the neck Replia Louis Vuitton Watches with reduced feather tract or no feather tracts (Somes, 1988). Davenport (1914) identified the naked neck gene in 20th century; Hertwig (1933) assigned the symbol 'Na' to gene. The Na gene received greater attention in the recent past in broiler production because of its association with heat tolerance (Merat, 1986; Cahaner et al., 1993; Singh et al., 2001; Lin et al., 2006) which is considered to be the most important inhibiting factor for poultry production in hot tropical climate (Horst, 1987). In broiler chickens the 'Na' gene results in a relatively higher growth rate and meat yield than the normal birds at normal temperature and the effect is more pronounced at high temperature (Cahaner et al., 1993). Higher meat yields were reported for Na genotypes (Yunis and Cahaner, 1999; Galal and Fathi, 2001; Patra et al., 2002; Fathi et al., 2008). Naked neck gene reduces relative feather mass by 40 and 20 percent in NaNa and Nana birds respectively, thus increasing the heat dissipation. Therefore, Na birds are more tolerant to heat stress compared to their normal siblings (Merat, 1986; Patra et al., 2002). The lower feather mass increases the effective surface area for heat dissipation and increases the sensible heat loss from the neck (Yahav et al., 1998). Introduction of major genes of tropical interest, Na, dw and F, to overcome the heat stress in hot climates and to improve the production, which will have an impact on innate immunity, thereby affecting the immune competence of chicken (Dorny et al., 2005). However, contradictory information is available with respect to influence of Na gene on immunity (Hanush et al., 2002; Kaufman, 2008). Therefore, the present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Na gene on immune competence, serum biochemical parameters and carcass characteristics in chicken for broiler production under tropical climate. MATERIAL AND METHODS sexy lingerie Experimental population Naked neck gene was introduced into a synthetic broiler breeder line by crossing with a homozygous Naked neck (NaNa) population for improving the broiler production under tropical environment. The base population of Naked neck line was developed after four successive generations of backcrossing and is maintained under mild selection pressure for six week body weight for the last six generations at Project Directorate on Poultry, Hyderabad, India. To avoid inbreeding, planned pedigreed mating was practiced in each generation. A total of 60 chicks, 20 chicks of both sexes (10 from each sex) from each genotype were selected randomly from a single pedigreed hatch produced from 40 sire and 120 dams. The effect of the gene was estimated by mean deviations of the NaNa and Nana from the nana genotypes using the following formula for all the traits (Fathi et al., 2008). Gene effect = (NaNa or Nana-nana/nana)x 100 Rearing and management The chicks were reared upto eight weeks of age under standard management practices under deep litter system with a decreasing lighting schedule from 34 [ or -] 1[degrees]C during the first week which was gradually reduced 26 [ or -] 1[degrees]C by third wee Wow gold!: Wow goldWow gold

News Feature: Tibetan ballad singer's unchanged melody LHASA, March 27 (Xinhua) -- "The legend of King Gesar would be passed on, generation upon generation, even if some day, the galloping horses became withered wood, jokuls disappeared, rivers went dry and the sun and stars lost their glory..." Samzhub's wrinkled, bony face radiates as he half sings and half narrates the Lliad and Odyssey type of epic, the crown of Tibetan folk literature. At 86, his eyesight and hearing are weak. But the man wearing amusingly large glasses can sing endlessly when he's in the mood, beads in one hand and prayer wheel in the other. Samzhub, one of China's 150-odd surviving King Gesar ballad singers, has completed verbatim recording of 45 episodes chanel handbag outlet of the epic and 30 publications in the country's three-decade campaign to preserve the 1-million-line, 1,000-year-old Tibetan epic. The epic, considered the world's longest, tells how the half- human, half-god Tibetan king conquered the devils of other tribes and sought to help ordinary people. Samzhub shines in the glory of the epic as he sings the ballad and tells the legends of his own life in his home on the outskirts of Lhasa. "GOD TAUGHT MASTER" Like all other Tibetan epic singers, Samzhub's skills were acquired, or rather, "god taught". Born to nomadic parents in Qamdo, he was an ordinary shepherd boy and never learned to read or write. One day when he was nine, he was caught in a downpour and fell asleep while sheltering underneath a pine tree. When he woke up, he found he was stuck in a crevice beneath some rocks, and heard his parents crying out his name. The boy was finally detected and pulled out of the rocks -- he remembered having slept for a while, but people said he had been missing for days. After that adventure young Samzhub always felt jolly, but was constantly sick. When the village doctor couldn't treat him, he was taken to a monastery, where a Living Buddha saw in him signs of a "god taught" King Gesar ballad singer. The Living Buddha read his pulse and soon enough, Samzhub was able to sing complete chapters of the epic. By the time he was 13, he had stood out among all the local children with his eloquence, wisdom and vivid presentation of more than 60 chapters of the legend. cheap coach purses Samzhub narrowly escaped being murdered at 16, when serf owners rallied every man in the village to fight the monks. Amid the riots he was invited to a friend's house, but the friend, whose father was a serf owner, tried to kill Samzhub one night. He woke up in time to run away, and left his home village the very next day. VAGRANT SINGER Following the route of King Gesar, he traveled across Tibet, from Qamdo in the east to Nyingchi and Shannan in the south and all the way to Ngari in the far west. He visited ruins of historical wars along the Gangdise Mountain Range on China's western border to understand the epic better. Wherever he went, Samzhub earned his food and clothing by singing the ballad. He made friends with many people, pilgrims, business people and beggars, some of whom followed him all the way to Lhasa. A DISTRICT with a shortage of industrial land is losing more factory space to housing after a homes company won a planning appeal. The Planning Inspectorate has granted outline permission for Barratt Newcastle Ltd to build houses in CatkinWay, Bishop Auckland, where one fifth of them will be cheap homes. Inspector Alan Robinson, who conducted a public inquiry in May, ruled that meeting the need for more affordable homes outweighed planning authority Wear Va lley District Council?s concerns about the lack of factory land. The site on the Greenfields Industrial Estate is allocated for industrial usage in the district?s local plan and has been owned since 2003 by furniture company Keen Replicas, who hope to sell and move to a smaller building. cheap coach purses The council told the inquiry they were keen to maintain employment space, citing a survey from regeneration group Shared Intelligence. But Barratt?s solicitor Richard Sagar argued that affordable housing was an ?acute and desperate issue? in Wear Va lley and the take-up rate for industrial units was low. In his judgement, Mr Robinson said that 20 per cent of the Barratt development would be affordable homes. He said: ?This has to be seen in the context of the council significantly failing to meet its identified affordable housing need. ?The failure to meet these needs is all the more serious given the significant rise in house prices when compared against the incomes earned by many replica breitling watches of those living in the district. ?The council accepted at the inquiry that the target for affordable housing has been undershot by more than a half. This is a considerable failure of provision. ? Barratts welcomed the decision but have not said when or how many, houses will be built. Councillor Barbara Laurie, former development control committee chairman, said: links of london charms ?This decision is disgraceful. Byline: MAT KENDRICK GOOD afternoon, you are through to Aston Villa Football Club's ticket office, Marlon speaking, how may I help you?" "Would you like me to print my name, Owusu-Abeyie, on your replica Blues shirt, Sir? Wouldn't Quincy be cheaper?" "Roman, it's Ish. What's the best detergent to get these grass stains out of the badges on the Baggies shorts?" Never mind salary caps, our players should be made to work 37-hour weeks by answering phones, working in the club shop or cleaning the kit to warrant their ridiculous wages. FA bigwig Lord Triesman hinted last week about placing a ceiling on earnings to prevent the silly money paid to pampered prima-donnas spiralling even further out of control. Clip on charms But, until conversations like the ones above become commonplace in football, then the chasm between superstar players and reality will be wider than the gap between Iwan Roberts' teeth. Imposing a salary cap would no doubt contravene Chapter A, Sub-section 3.5, Appendix 51F of the Human Rights Act, as well as incur the wrath of the PFA spoilt brats sympathiser Gordon Taylor. So the best way to curtail the huge sums being wasted on flash cars, mock tudor mansions and WAGs' handbags is to start paying players per hour rather than per week. Embroidered Patches If footballers had to work a regular working week rather than simply turn up for 120 minutes' training each day then they might understand and appreciate the value of money a little more. But it's a question of supply and demand. If some mug is willing to pay more of our money per week to someone who kicks a ball around than the man who runs our country earns in a year then good luck to them. Final Word's biggest bugbear is the hours that players keep. If the average working man can cope with eight-hour shifts a day or more then why can't our well-paid sporting heroes? If phone-answering, shopwork, or kit-cleaning is too demanding then 10 kids' coaching sessions, school talks or hospital visits a week should be written into their contracts. Bottega Veneta Replica We fully understand the argument that our poor footballers need their rest to recover from a week of five-a-sides, massages and the odd game of football. But the paying punter would have much more sympathy for them if they gave more back to the community. A case in point was a sponsors' day involving one of our clubs last week. Three stars were expected to attend, but one participated reluctantly and another failed to show up at all. With the credit crunch forcing many fans to work overtime to afford their football fix, the least the players should do is put the hours in. CORNWALL certainly has got talent...and it is very young and was evident in abundance as scores of children from across the county took to the stage at its premier venue. The gala charity fund-raising event's third annual production again came courtesy of the tireless Eily Tatlow, producer, songwriter and coach extraordinaire from Cornwall Music Service and Stagecoach Theatre Arts. It was hosted charmingly by Ashleigh Sendin, with great encouragement and enthusiasm. With so many impressive young performers aged six to 16, the only fair way to give them all the credit they deserve is to simply rattle through those from the Cornish Guardian area as they rattled through their performances for an appreciative packed house over the two-and-a-half hour show. Discount Marni Bags Kernow Voice Whitemoor's young section shone with its own composition, including clap-along and even rap parts, and a version of Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines. Its older children's brilliant two-part harmony with Tread Softly Because You Tread on My Dreams and The Rose was genuinely moving. The 25 performers of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, Bodmin, were well co-ordinated with a clever torchlit section within their two Jacksons/Michael Jackson renditions. Obsessed, from Newquay's Treviglas Community College, with Hallelujah boasted perfectly-timed harmonies and solo parts, including one standout voice (you know who you are, girl on stage right!). Experienced rising star Replica Nike Air Triax 91 Shoes and Tretheras school student Emma Welch, 16, showed she can carry a note with smiling, soaring confidence and put her own personality into When I Meet the Wizard and Michael Buble's Everything. Newquay's Danceworx showed great timing at carrying tempos which had the audience clapping through an energetic and breathless routine. A second turn was also bursting with energy. More than 40 pupils from Biscovey Junior School transported the audience to Africa for spirited renditions of Kenyan and Zimbabwean song and dance. The evening's award for professionalism goes to the massive cast from the Pamela Darlington School of Dance, for everything from its costumes to choreography and a breadth of talent. A medley from Oliver! brought rapturous applause. designer shoes Fowey Community College's eight-piece band and allsinging, all- dancing, 40-strong cast performed snippets of its own stage musical to conclude the show. The jeers I've taken from passing motorists, often while walking home from a grocery store with bags in hand, tell me that many people believe in the car, not their own feet and legs, for personal transportation. OK. But it never hurts to begin with the basics: Walking is the most fundamental form of transportation. It's the way we start moving every day. Every trip we make begins by walking, even if it's just to get us to our car or to a bus stop. If you're in a place that's conducive to walking, it also can be a really enjoyable way to get around. Walking shaped much of what we treasure as a society --Think of the charm we associate with communities developed before World War II that were designed for pedestrians. replica Leather shoes However, sharing space with high-speed vehicular traffic not only can be unpleasant, but scary and dangerous -- for motorists as well as foot trekkers. In every town around, there are at least some people who don't have access to cars or are unable to drive, and often need to walk for transportation. Children and the elderly figure high in this population. Everybody needs -- or will need -- safe walkways. Yet the recent windfall of stimulus funds for transportation projects largely bypassed this need. Most it went to conventional road and bridge projects; some went to public-transit providers -- but a small fraction went to improvements for bicycles and pedestrians. Why? Because stimulus projects were required to be "shovel ready," and it turns out that many states' sidewalk and bicycle projects rarely are. We can work to remedy this shortfall. Here's how: Instead of waiting for experts at the state Department of Transportation to tell us where we need new sidewalks or bicycle paths, we need to figure this out for ourselves, and then tell them. Some communities are well ahead in this area and have bicycle/ pedestrian plans, complete with lists of prioritized projects. Replica Pulsar Watches See if your municipality has one of these plans by contacting your township, borough or city planner, manager or a council or board member. If your municipality doesn't have anyone actively working on making your roads safer for walkers and bikers, organize a group to start thinking about this, and build support for a well-grounded plan that will make a positive difference. Take a walk around your borough, township or city and think about where you feel safe, welcome, and like a legitimate user of your street network. Make note of places you see people walking where it just doesn't look safe or comfortable -- where you would not want to trade places with them. Improvements could range from just a few more feet of road shoulder to a full sidewalk or bicycle path Prioritize your needs. The goal: a safe and enduring project. The results will be in place for generations and will be a real asset to your community. Get help from PennDOT to take the project to the "shovel-ready" stage. This takes persistence, patience, planning, engineering and money. You'll probably need the agency's help in resolving issues such as property ownership, environmental concerns and permits and utility rights-of-way.
