About 12 children each month who have been hurt or are in danger are being referred to Child Youth and Family services from Palmerston North and Horowhenua.

Samzhub's wrinkled, bony face radiates as he half sings and half narrates the Lliad and Odyssey type of epic, the crown of Tibetan folk literature.

At 86, his eyesight and hearing are weak. But the man wearing amusingly large glasses can sing endlessly when he's in the mood, beads in one hand and prayer wheel in the other.

A DISTRICT with a shortage of industrial land is losing more factory space to housing after a homes company won a planning appeal.

The Planning Inspectorate has granted outline permission for Barratt Newcastle Ltd to build houses in CatkinWay, Bishop Auckland, where one fifth of them will be cheap homes.

Inspector Alan Robinson, who conducted a public inquiry in May, ruled that meeting the need for more affordable homes outweighed planning authority Wear Va lley District Council?s concerns about the lack of factory land.
