China's Tianjin agree to sell midfielder Hao Junmin to Schalke 04

TIANJIN, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Super League side Tianjin Taida has agreed to sell midfielder Hao Junmin to German Bundesliga team Schalke 04, the Chinese club told Xinhua on Thursday.

Hao will sign a four-year contract with Schalke 04, but other details of the deal remain unknown.

"The Chinese soccer league needs stars to boost the box office but the transfer of the Chinese players to prestigious clubs abroad can help Chinese soccer have a better future," Li Guangyi, general manager of the club, told Xinhua on Thursday.

Hao will become the third Chinese player ever to join a Bundesliga side, following the footsteps of former Frankfurt striker Yang Chen and Cottbus striker Shao Jiayi. He will be the only player among the three to join the Bundesliga without going through any trial.

The 22-year-old Hao, a superb product from the Tianjin youth camp, has joined Tianjin's first string team when he was just 16. In 2005, Hao won the Rookie of the Year award and has since been called up to the Chinese national team on different levels. Hao has have trials at English Premier League side Chelsea, but failed to take his chance.

Schalke 04 now lie on third on the Bundesliga tables with 38 points, three points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
